How do Americans react to Intelligent Design that aims to replace Darwinian theory?

patrisius_2000 asked:

Been reading Intelligent Design and is awed by the depth of the insight and the rigor of the argument. Just wondering how Americans respond to this proposal.

  11. ID isn’t a scientific theory as it doesn’t predict anything. Its proponents do realize it, but their aim isn’t to replace the theory of evolution, but rather to simply falsify it. They are using scientific method to do it, but they have no coherent theory to fill the void, so it won’t satisfy anyone except some fundy Christians.

  14. It’s a good thing that we might have options now with what the kids can be tested on. After all, the Darwinian Theory conflicts with some folks’ freedom of religion.
But of course, not everyone will agree, and not one person can speak for the whole.

The fundies are quick with the thumbs down. They must have figured out where they left them. I hope they cleaned them up before using them for something else.

  18. I think Intelligent Design is indeed laughable and will never replace real science.

  19. I think Evolution has never happened and will never happen. That is why is can only be called a theory. Intelligent Design is the only logical conclusion one can draw from the complexity of the universe, a human, you name it.

  21. From your profile, you live in Indonesia … so, therefore, you may not understand that in America so many, many people here are so completely brainwashed by the theory of evolution professors, that they completely reject any other theory that doesn’t match up with evolution.

If you want to know more about why it is that way here, I would strongly recommend you find the movie Expelled with Ben Stein for a better understanding of the closed-mindedness in colleges and universities towards intelligent design and creationism.

  22. I think The scientific community has responded with resounding laughter.

ID makes no testable predictions, is not falsifiable, and is nothing more than an argument from ignorance.

There are also gaping logical holes with relation to the very specific designer IDers want to push, ex. deadly pathogens “look designed” by the same standards.

It is not even wrong. It isn’t science by any definition.

  27. I think Not all Americans believe only in one of those. There are many that believe in intelligent design, and many who believe in evolution (before you get your panties in a bunch, try actually looking up the word “believe”).

Anyways, I know you’re awed by intelligent design, but have you read this much in depth about evolution, too? You seem like guy who does like to do his detailed research, first, before just agreeing with anyone. If you want to be so sure, isn’t it worth studying both sides of the arguments, equally?

  28. Churches are losing major influence all over the world. Darwinism is another valid theory to disprove their theories. They are trying desperately to keep people in the church to keep power. I am not saying faith in a higher power is wrong. Just that when men claim to speak on behalf of god it is ludicrous. God does not speak he is only felt through your soul. Men make up the “rules” of god. It is just time for a more realistic FAITH not religion to emerge.

  29. You’re awed by the depth of the insight and rigor of the argument? You would be absolutely slack-jawed if you ever looked at the argument for evolution. It’s clear that you never have, or you certainly wouldn’t buy one word of the ID argument.

  31. Educated and intelligent Americans laugh at Intelligent Design. It’s just another form of young earth creationism, which has been debunked time and time again.

  32. differently… some are creationalists who think intelligent design is crap, some are evolutionists who back it fully, some, like me, don’t care.
