How did you become a network administrator?

I was wondering what career path did you take to become a network administrator? Also what certifications/degrees did you need/have at the time?

  1. I think Do you mean a forum administrator?

If that’s what you mean, then you don’t need any type of degree.. just need to find someone to host the site, be the certain age that it asks you to be, and pay what you owe every month…

  2. All depends on the network – Cisco, Juniper etc? Basically get certified in whatever network they run or you are interested in, Cisco would be my guess as the most popular. It is quite hard to get a position as an network admin without credentials, especially in today’s climate.

Got to start from the ground up if you haven’t done it before – help-desk – Junior admin -senior admin .

My advice, get a CCNA – start applying. You may even find that once you are in and show promise that they will pay for you to continue to CCNP or branch towards CCDP etc (probably not CCIE though!) :)
